CE: Before I got here I didn't really have any expectations. I knew that I was hungry to learn and wanted a new experience outside of the south and wanted to get to New York. I found the program or it sort of found me in a weird way, but it came at the right time in my life. This program as definitely expanded my knowledge of my craft and myself and allowed me to be flexible and know that I have a whole bunch of tools in my toolbox that I can pull out at any moment and rely on those and feel comfortable and trust the instincts that are in me. Rod and Susan and Janet and all the instructors and people who came and to talk to us were phenomenal and they gave us the best possible wisdom and knowledge that they could possibly give us coming from their backgrounds. BF: I came from Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton California.  When I came out here I came to focus on acting but I ended up finishing a ten minute one act play. Finishing plays for me was my biggest struggle in the past, I was able to start everything and never finish it, so that was definitely a new respect that I gained for playwrights. Staged readings is something that I really learned how to do exactly, there is a structure for a staged reading.

RS: I am from Columbus Ohio, I go to Kenyon College. Susan Merson stayed at a bed & breakfast that my mother's friend owns and told her about the program and told her; I know this girl who would be interested in doing something like that. I got in contact with Susan through her and it was quite a happy accident. I think it's been a marvelous chance for me to uh, I came as an actor and I think I've gotten a chance to stand in a playwright's shoes in this program. I found out I could write and feel that now as an actor I'll be better able to serve playwrights when they're developing their new works and readings. I think I have developed a new vocabulary for doing  new play readings and now I just have a better idea of how to go into workshop a new play. Since that'll be a good portion of what I do as an actor, it's been a great skill set to learn. LH: I am from New York,  I got to school at Clark University in Worcester Massachusetts. I found out about this program through a ? professsor of my fathers who had read some of my work and referred me to the program. I am a writer but I had a lot of fun with all the acting stuff. I had only acted as favors to people when they needed someone at the last minute. I had a lot of fun acting and a lot of fun at the whole program,
it's really a valuable program, I really recommend it.

MD: I came here with a bag and a heart and a confused brain. I came here with pretty international dresses without a confident woman to fill them. I was walking to class today with my ipod pulsing smoothly into my ears, the tall walls of the buildings around me no longer looked down on me but lifted me up trying to make me reach their heights. I was about to cross the street, a dirty old spanish woman asked me if I knew where the number one subway line was, I said one block that way.  Out of all the people on the street she picked me, me, I looked like i knew where I was going and I do know where I am going.
This program has helped me immensely, I can now fill those international dresses.  My heart is full. The city and this program has healed my wounds in a very strange way.
